The mainstay of treatment for these fractures has been the use of a short arm cast for four to six weeks and several follow-up visits to an orthopedic surgeon. 3 – 5 These minimally angulated fractures generally do not require reduction, have an excellent long-term prognosis and rarely result in complications such as malunion or deformity. 2 Although such fractures are often angulated at the time of injury, physicians often accept those with minimal angulation (≤ 15°) because of the unique capacity of skeletally immature bones in children to heal through remodelling. Casting also will help reduce the swelling and in turn reduce the pain.Fractures of the distal radius are the most common fracture in childhood 1 and a frequent reason for visits to the emergency department. When a cast is used it is normally a soft cast. Before it is cast or splinted the orthopedic physician will make sure that the bone is aligned correctly. Casting or splinting will make sure that the bone is aligned properly so it will heal correctly. This is an important part of healing because it helps in the normal healing process of the fractured bone by keeping it from moving. The orthopedic physician may give you a prescription for stronger pain medication if needed but it depends on the age of the child. Your orthopedic physician will usually prescribe over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NASIDs) like ibuprofen and acetaminophen to help with the pain. There are three main treatments that are used to treat buckle fractures which are: Pain managementĪs soon as the bone is fractured there is pain and it is very uncomfortable especially with children and the elderly. The bones will naturally heal by themselves but to keep the area immobilized and prevent further damage and to help it heal properly the orthopedic physician will splint or cast the injured area. This is the physician who has specialized in treating different bone problems, including fractures. To treat a buckle fracture you will have to see an orthopedic physician before any treatment is done. Most buckle fractures are treated by splinting or casting them. If the physician cannot get a positive diagnosis as to whether it is a buckle fracture or not they may have a CT scan or MRI done. The x-ray can diagnosis if it is a buckle fracture and if not, what type of fracture it is and how severe it is. The most common way to diagnosis a buckle fracture is by having an x-ray taken. Having a fractured finger will prevent the range of motions in that finger, especially the fine motor movements.Ī buckle fracture can also happen because of trauma such as a car wreck or being hit by something heavy called blunt force trauma. Finger – this is not as serious buckle fracture nor as common as other buckle fractures. This type of buckle fracture accounts for approximately thirty percent all fractures that occur in children and the elderly. Wrist – this is one of the more common condition or problem in a child’s wrist because when a child falls most of the time they extended their hands for support when they fall so they can try to catch themselves. These are the two bones found in your forearms. This is because they are so carefree and seem to fall a lot as they run, play, and jump with their arms outstretched.Radius and ulna – approximately fifty percent of fractures that children and the elderly have are this type of buckle fracture. There are many different types with each one having a different cause as to why it happened. When move the affected area they have an uncomfortable feeling. The buckle fracture is one that is also found in most elderly people after falling, especially involving the radius and ulna bones in their forearms and the bone in their wrist because their bones are fragile. It is a fracture that you will commonly see in children, especially during the phase when their bones are still growing and their bones are still soft unlike adults who bones are harder. ![]() The difference between the two is that when you have a buckle fracture it does now bow out. It is a type of fracture that is often compared to a greenstick fracture in which with this type of fracture one side of the bone bends outward and the other side of the bone breaks. It is also referred to as a torus fracture. It is a type of fracture that affects the side of a bone making the side of the bone bend outward but it does not fully break. ![]() ![]() White southern fears of slave rebellion, which were already a powerful force in the white southern imagination, became amplified significantly, and not merely in Virginia. Though ultimately unsuccessful in its goal of overturning slavery, the Southampton Rebellion was a crucial turning point for the institution and for the political history of the United States. Nat Turner himself managed to elude capture for more than two months before he was taken into custody, tried and hanged on November 11, 1831. The state of Virginia tried fifty black people in Southampton County for insurrection over the next several months, convicting thirty and executing eighteen. The rebels killed roughly sixty white people, while the militia and white mobs killed around 200 black people, some of whom were beheaded and mutilated and many of whom had nothing to do with the rebellion in the first place. In the end, the rebellion lasted less than forty-eight hours. As the numbers grew and word began to spread about what was going on, white Virginians sent a militia unit to confront Turner and his small army, and it proceeded to scatter, kill or capture nearly all of Turner’s men. Late in August of that year, Turner and a small number of recruits began moving from house to house, killing nearly every white person they could find and being joined by several dozen additional enslaved and free black rebels. In his twenties he began to experience visions and revelations that he was certain could only have come from God, and by 1831 he believed he had received divine ordination to rise up against slavery, vanquish white slaveholders, and usher his fellow bondspersons to freedom. Turner grew up enslaved in southeastern Virginia’s Southampton County and he was deeply convicted in his Christian faith. ![]() The true story of Nat Turner and the rebellion he led is a compelling one. ![]() ![]() ![]() Take the Concurrent Versions System (CVS) as an example of what not to do if in doubt, make the exact opposite decision. For his design criterion, he specified that patching should take no more than three seconds, and added three more goals: He cited an example of a source-control management system needing 30 seconds to apply a patch and update all associated metadata, and noted that this would not scale to the needs of Linux kernel development, where synchronizing with fellow maintainers could require 250 such actions at once. Torvalds wanted a distributed system that he could use like BitKeeper, but none of the available free systems met his needs. The same incident also spurred the creation of another version-control system, Mercurial. The copyright holder of BitKeeper, Larry McVoy, claimed that Andrew Tridgell had created SourcePuller by reverse engineering the BitKeeper protocols. Git development was started by Torvalds in April 2005 when the proprietary source-control management (SCM) system used for Linux kernel development since 2002, BitKeeper, revoked its free license for Linux development. Git is free and open-source software shared under the GPL-2.0-only license. As with most other distributed version control systems, and unlike most client–server systems, every Git directory on every computer is a full-fledged repository with complete history and full version-tracking abilities, independent of network access or a central server. Since 2005, Junio Hamano has been the core maintainer. Git was originally authored by Linus Torvalds in 2005 for development of the Linux kernel, with other kernel developers contributing to its initial development. ![]() Its goals include speed, data integrity, and support for distributed, non-linear workflows (thousands of parallel branches running on different computers).
